His personal decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V" and Gold Star in lieu of second award; the Purple Heart Medal; and the Combat Action Ribbon. He was presented the Distinguished Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious service to the government of the United States in a duty of great responsibility as the 9th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps.
